Forschung Aufenthaltserlaubnis §20

Hello guys,
I am working at the university as a 'Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter' and have the permit 'Forschung Aufenthaltserlaubnis §20'.
Does anyone know if, in order to get the unlimited visa 'unbefristet', my years will be counted as normal work, or is it considered differently?
I know that the §20 visa is considered as a work permit, but I don't know how my years will be counted for the unlimited visa, given that I do research at the university.
