Residence permit rules

Hi,

I have been living in Germany since last one and half years. Due to personal reasons, my wife had to travel back to India. She will be back in March. Last week I heard that if a person with a valid residence permit lives outside Germany for more than 6 months, the residence permit will expire. I was not aware of this. My wife has been away since last 7 months.

My HR guys advised me that she can not come back with the current residence permit since it is not valid any more. (Even though my wife has a valid residence permit till end of 2006).

I am advised that the only way to bring her is to apply for a new visa from India.

Is this advise correct and are there any other possibilities?
