What is a good salary for living in Heidelberg ?
My salary including the 13th installment is euro 64k, gross - all fixed. This is equivalent to around euro 42k in hand - 3500 euro in hand per month. How good a salary is it for a couple (my wife will come on a dependent visa so finding a job for her initially wd be a tuff nut to crack). Typically what can be the max monthly expenditure if one wants to live a comfortable life in heidelberg area and also save a bit. A break up of expenses into key heads such as rent, utilities, groceries etc would be really helpful.
I know it can vary between individuals, but still needed a general feel on this salary !

Rent : 10 Eur/m2(if you have a house for 100 m2 it will be like 1000 Euros)
Heating & other expenses for the house but not included in rent : ~3 Eur/m2
Electrictly : depends on usage( 600 Eur/Year)
Mobile(2 nos): ~50 Euros
Public Transport : ~70 Eur
Internet : ~ 40 Eur
Food : depends on individual..can live on 100 Euros for a month when cooked at home

you should note on the 13 installment which is Christmas allowance the tax calculation is different and you give away almost 60% for tax.Also you should check if you are married and if your wife is not living in Germany then they will not consider you in Tax class III which will bring your monthly income to somewhere around 2900..

...neways, just to get a feel, is this a high salary or average? i have 4 years exp with an MBA degree.

hey prasadp, i checked in other forums also, the tax treatment for the 13th installment is the same as the salary...if they deducted more in your case, i guess the tax office owes u money at year end !!

Hi to all,
i did my Master here in Germany and since 3.5 years iam working in Germany, but my salary is not comparable (~50k) with the guys who are coming from India(~63k).
Why German comanies dont pay that salaries those who are working here ?
If we combine arbeitgeberanteil then it comes around ~60K, but those who are coming from India dont get arbeitgeberanteil (Rente, kk..)?

well justdoit, i dont think its fair to generalize it dis way...salary is dependent on many factors - experience, job-fit, industry relevance, education, etc...why bring Indian - non Indian into it !

The guys come from india are valued more than are guys stay here ... difficult to believe but it is true.
The main reason is they will have lots of expereience for example if they see your CV then you may have experience only in Germany. If you take a CV from indian companies mostly they have vast multinational experience from different countries. Most of them have experience earned form their competitor
If someone from india after 10 years experience (Project management level), they are rare resources in Germany. Most of the companies are looking for opening a branch in indian. These guys are valued more and ofcourse paid more ...

normally this is trend in Germany
40-45K (1-2 yrs exp)
45-50K (2-3 yrs exp)
50-60K (4+)
After 55K increment moves very slowly.
Above 65K need to hold your chair firmly 
.
There are exceptions for example fresher with 60K due to special skills. Keep in mind in cities they pay 5-10% more. In east 5-10% less than the above scale.
