Hi,
I am looking for an apartment in Wolfenbuttel over internet.
I see the charges (Nebenkosten) are very high.
e.g 2 zimmer: The rent is 240 Euros, the charges are 256 Euros: 496 in total.
Normally the charges includes what?
Is it the flat amount you pay (or) it depends on the consumption?
In brussels I pay 14 euros for electricity and gas( for stove).
+ I pay for water, maintenance, heating: 60 euros.
So, I wonder why the charges are soo high in Germany?

Seems the nebenkosten is high ( if it is for one person ) .
Nebenkosten is charged usually depending on how many persons live in the apartement .
Nebenkosten are the expences paid by the House lord for the different public service departements or for the House Adminstration ( Hausverwaltung ) who are responsible for maintainance and support of the building .
Some of these services include the following ( not all of them ) :
- Heating and water consumption
- Garbage collection .
- External maintainance services .
- Hausmeister .
- Garden maintainance .
etc ....
A list of these services and who should pay for it should be defined in your rent contract .
Personally I pay around 70 Euros per person every month .
