New GC - Do I need to go to the consulate

Hi all,

Quick question ...I hope you can help me out with this one. I've just got a new GC and I'm wondering if I have to go to the consulate in my country to get an entry visa although I dont need a visa to travel to Germany in normal circumstances. Any experince? Any input is really appreciated.
Thanks

Stange. In my case, I had to apply for visa first, and then GC.

Anyway, GC is your permision to stay, live and work in Germany, so you don't have to apply for visa.

Hello,

I came from Canada as well (Croatian citizen). I didn't need to go to my ambasy but to the German consulate in Toronto. They will know what needs to be done.

You don't have to go to any consulate in order to enter Germany. Once you are here you can solve your work permit with the Auslanderat the city you will be working in. BTW I'm a GC holder from Romania too.

@florinux:

did you see the advantage of mentioning your country name? This group has GCs from all over the world, and if you mention your country, the related persons who know on this regard can help. I am from India, and dont know anything on this issue !

Have a nice weekend everyone !!

Re: New GC - Do I need to go to the consulate

Thank you everybody for the answers. I've been to the consulate today and they dont know what visa type they should give me...the 1st time they gave the application for work permit ... when I told them this is a GC and the work permit has been issued they switched to a Shengen visa, which I dont need as romanian. So it's still in limbo... KrisztianK how sure you are about that? Do you know people coming on GC from Romania after Jan 1, 2002? Sorry for asking again but I need to be sure ... you know how german birocracy works....
Thanks again

florinux:

I came here in 2001 then I needed a visa to enter Germany. To be absolute sure you can put the same question to the romanian GC comunity here: www.romanians-de.org
We are around 1000 people with GC from Romania here in Germany.

Re: New GC - Do I need to go to the consulate

are you in R or G
did you get visa in pass
if you are in R then you need 3 months Visa to enter G
in G you go to AB and get GC Visum for 5 years
you have to make AE (work permit) also in G

if you are in G with Visum in pass then maybe you need to make only AE
