Registration as Married person to process Spouse visa

Dear All,
I am staying in Frankfurt for the past 22 months with valid residence permit. I got married last month and applied for dependant visa for my wife.

Germany visa office here asked to register once again as a Married person for the spouse's visa to get processed.

Meantime I got my visa extended for another 1 year from my company, as my visa will get expire on Oct 2010.
Please let me know, if anyone have faced like this scenario for registering as Married person in Germany to get dependant visa processed.
