Freiwiilge verscherung??

Hello All,
I have just recieved a letter from AOK that My monthly salary has reached above a limit , so My Pflichtversichrung has been ended , and now I have option to choose either Freiwillige versichrung or Private Versich.
Now My question is It is usual that your Pflichtversichrung is ended when you reach a salary limit ?.

Can not be continued the Pflichtversichrung ??
What is the difference between Pflichtversichrung & Freiwiilge verscherung??
I will be very happy if someone can give answer??
