for changing the visa status,Shd I apply from the home country ?

Hallo All,

I have a question, Since 3 1/2 years
i'm working here in Germany with GC.
I have a plan of doing Masters in one German
University.
Does anybody know whether i have to return to my home
country to get my visa status changed for studies or it can be done here ?
After my studies,If i want to continue my job further in Germany or if i want to apply for PR.Do they also count my previous aufenthalt duration ( work time + study time ) ?

Please give ur views, if some one has any experience with this kind of situation !
