What is a good salary for living in Heidelberg ?

My salary including the 13th installment is euro 64k, gross - all fixed. This is equivalent to around euro 42k in hand - 3500 euro in hand per month. How good a salary is it for a couple (my wife will come on a dependent visa so finding a job for her initially wd be a tuff nut to crack). Typically what can be the max monthly expenditure if one wants to live a comfortable life in heidelberg area and also save a bit. A break up of expenses into key heads such as rent, utilities, groceries etc would be really helpful.

I know it can vary between individuals, but still needed a general feel on this salary !

Thnx

Yes !!!
After 60K they expect more productivity, that's the reason ......<<<Above 65K need to hold your chair firmly>>>

Just to come back to your question - with ~65K, by living normally (going out from time to time (maybe once a week) but also cooking at home) you can live very nice.

I think that you will be able to save min. 1000€/month (at least I can ).

Btw. we are traveling min. twice a year (home country (in Europe) and vacation somewhere in Europe).

With your experience and education the salary seems to be ok but be careful the chances of people being fired during probation is very high here especially during the last 1 year and i already know few who left their good jobs in India when they got an offer over 70K here and had no option other than returning.

@orangepajama,

do you have limited or unlimited contract?
if it is unlimited contract then its a good salary.

BTW dont expect salary hike like in india, if you expect good increase then you need to master german language.. otherwise you continue to see approx same salary for years.

@engineer,

i dont think indian engineers/professionals are paid more than locals. The major factor is the knowledge of german language togther with experience. if somebody is being paid more than local w/o german skills, then most of such cases are at risk to be fired easily.
