change from work visa to student visa - Germany
Hi,
I am originally from India and came to Germany to pursue an MS in Computational Eng. in 2006.
Thereafter i worked with a german IT Consultancy firm in Cologne for almost 3 years (do speak fluent German).
Now i have an admission letter from a Business School in Germany for which i need a student visa. I visited the Auslandsamt here in Cologne and they told me that i need to fly back to India and submit a fresh app. for a student visa. This means another round of interview and checks.
Could you knowledegable people help me out with the interview questions considering i have already worked here before. Would that be a problem to get a student visa again ?? Is it a reason enough to be nervous ?
Some help would be really appreciated.

Have you finished the studies and has a degree from 2006?

yea i already have a MS degree and have been working since 2006 for almost 3 yrs

a bit of confusion.. you mentioned above that you came in 2006 for MS and then worked or worked right away for 3 yrs?
If you can manage a NE/D-EG you could stay without any problem..

Sorry for the misunderstanding.
I came to Germany in the year 2004 and completed my MS in the year May 2006. Thereafter I worked from August 2006 - Present.
And now in September 2010 i would like to change my stream to management and pursue an MBA at the Mannheim Business School.
For that i would need to convert my work visa (current status) to a student visa.

This conversion of work visa to student is a bit tricky thing. Normally ABH are not in favor of doing it as it involves some procedures for foreign students and they recommend to go back to home country to get one. But there are many exceptions I have seen before too. It all needs a bit of recommendation from a professor with good contacts in ABH or anyone who can talk to ABH and then they can suggest a way.
You can try for the student visa in Mannheim rather than Koeln, if ABH in Koeln is persistent not to change your visa.
But a hassle free way is to get a NE before you take up any changes in your career.

thanks Rajendra.
I will surely speak to the international office at Mannheim Business School because i believe they do have some contacts in ABH Mannheim.
About the NE, i dont think i am eligible for that because as i searched this forum i found a few posts where people said you need to pay 60 months of RV and in my case i will have paid RV (as i resign in June) for about 34 months.
Could you advice me in this regard ?

but being student would be counted as half..
still you get less than 60 months?

but as a student i did not pay any RV. So how would it count ?

NE period = half of student time + Number of months pension paid and the sum needs to be 60
