Visa
Hello Forum users,
soon i am getting married and gone through all previous responses about spouse visa application and my queries here are due to poor bureaucracy knowledge.
1. can you explain which office(name of the office, place, city) i need to approach to get marriage certificate attested before going to external ministry office. ( i come from India - Chennai).
2. Is there any branch in chennai for external ministry. How to approach them? should we visit them personally or does it work via Post. Any website link?
Thanks for all help.

Re: Visa
Hi ,
You dont need the attestation of the external affairs ministry anymore. You should call up the Chennai consulate to confirm about this.
It may be helpful to get the marriage certificate translated to German. Yet in my friend´s case they asked for a marriage certificate verification.
Good luck with your visa.
Best wishes,

Re: Visa
As for as I know there is no need of attestation in marriage certificate.
My wife submitted the application on Feb 1 in Chennai and in 5 weeks she got the visa.
I come from TN and I was misled and tried to get this attestation. Even after 8 weeks, attestation was not done and the Indian bureaucracy is much worse than German. Finally my wife applied without attestation.
Just submit the documents mentioned in the application form and checklist which you can download from chennai embassy website. That's enough.
Onething I did additionally was, along with the work contract, I submitted a letter from my employer which states I am employed here with unlimited contract and quoting my salary.
Infact they ask only one of this. I submitted both.
Everything in English only. Neither German letters nor german translated certificates.
All the best.

Re: Spouse Visa Questions
@ prabath
My wife applied for Spouse Visa a week ago in Chennai consulate. I submitted the letter from company too.
What should I do now? If you explain your case in detail, it will be helpful for others esp. one who applies in Chennai consulate.

Maybe 1-2 weeks you should check with ABH at ur place, whether they have recieved the application. Keep track of your application on a weekly basis. You would come to know in the coming weeks whether they would ask for a marriage certificate verification from ABH.
If they ask for verification get in touch with Chennai consulate to submit the ceritificate.
Good luck with your visa.

Re: Visa
Prabhath,
It seems in your case marriage certificate verification was not done. My marriage certificate verification is pending for the past 7 weeks. Do you know how long does the verification take?
I applied in Chennai consulate.
Many thanks in advance.

Re: Visa
Thanks guys. So, i need to just register a marriage and get it translated from goethe institute.
Then, depends on our luck whether there is a verification process or not.
Is there any consultation (regarding the required documents) offered by german embassy or any other agency before applying for visa. I could not find anything on their website.

Re: Visa
About my case. I didn't call or went to ABH.
2 weeks after my appln. was submitted, I got a letter from ABH in Düsseldorf and they gave me an appointment to come on a day with the following docs. Mietvertrag, Arbeitsvertrag, Payslips. I went there and on the same day the beamterin informed the Chennai consulate. She specifically mentioned that she will reply on the same day to Chennai consulate. In the next week my wife got call from VFS to receive the visa. It was quite simple in my case.
@stuttgarter.
Yes. I am lucky they didn't ask for verification of my marriage certificate. I know of some cases where they asked and it took 2 months for verification to complete and totally it took 3 months for Visa. Even if you plan to take attestation before applying visa it takes quite long time. So please be patient. It is simply luck, based on the city you live and the beamter/in.
@mr1200.
Wait for 2 weeks. If you dont get any letter/call from ABH, then go to the ABH on the 3rd week and ask whether your appln. has been received.
My suggestion is to talk in German with the beamter/in. In my case, beamterin was very happy to know that I speak some/good German and she was very nice talking about price rise and esp. the increase in strom price.

Visa
Hi,
1)Get the marriage registered in India and it is better to GET the certificate translated by the Indo-German chamber of commerce.
(In my case the local beamter here in Heidelberg, asked me to get the translation done).
Translation is not asked in the embassy(chennai), but the local German officials here might simply send the docs back to India requesting a translation and thereby delaying the process. The less you give these ppl work the better.
Call the folks below and get the certificate translated.
