It varies from place to place. For example the cost of living in Munich is much higher than other parts of Germany.
The average cost for moderate living for a student is around 500 Euros per month.

I lived in kiel, and there it was round about 300 to 350 euros a month.
50 euros health insurance by AOK
150 food cost, if you cook in a group.
round about 150 euros accomodation, but can go up to 200 in some accomodations.
This was from 2004 to 2007.
