Private Medical Insurance Reference
Hi all,
Need information regarding Private Medical Insurance, i need reference of the Representatives, so that i can get information and quotation, how much it costs and what are covered.

Please be careful during choosing your health insurance. I have bad experience with a private insurance company named as UniXXXXX. They sometimes want to make left and right not to pay some coverages.
Then I changed it to Allianz. I am satisfied with their service.

I heard different opinions about Allianz, maybe it was just a isolated cases. I was with Inter KV for 6 years and never had any problems getting money back - and they were quite a big amounts - MRI scans, couple operations, dental braces for a kid etc.
However think 10 times before choosing private insurance and don't trust insurance agents - they get 6-9 monthly rates for each person they sign - and of course they are prepared to tell you anything. Once you change to private - there is no way back unless your salary decreases bellow 47K Euro a year. Your monthly payment will also increase every year - in average it increases 3x faster than state insurance. And if you get sick - no other private insurance company will accept you (this is what happened to me). Also you have to pay for you wife (in case she is not working) and for your kids separately - state insurance covers your family.
However there is also advantages with private - it costs less if you are young and have no family, usually you can get appointment with a doctor immediately - for example now I have state insurance (managed to get it without decreasing salary - but this is another story) and have to wait 2 weeks for appointment with specialist :/ Private covers a lot what state doesn't cover.
If you plan to stay in Germany only few years - go with private - do research first! However if you are thinking long term and family - I'd suggest to have state + zusatzversicherung for a hospital, or you can also go with private - but invest difference between state and private somewhere - stocks, fonds etc, otherwise when you become older you end-up paying all you rent to the insurance company...
Main point - you choose private insurance not because it's cheaper (this is how agents are trying to sell it), but because you get better service.

@Bies: Can you tell us your story how you managed to switch from private to state insurance?
Since I got kid I am trying to do same (I earn more then 47K) but without success.

Could you please share your experience how you got rid from Private medical insurance to Public without being get ur salary decreased.
It would be very helpful to one my friends who is also in a similar situation. Without knowing much about Insurance policies, he took private Med. Ins. when he first arrived germany in year 2000. Now he has family and struggling to switch to Public.

My salary is 45k plus bonus and hence this figure is more than 47k...is there a private kranken versicherung to which i can switch to?I need to have a KV for me only.
