Marriage in Germany

Has anybody got experience in getting married in Germany (BW)? I went to the Standesamt and the first two document I need to provide are:
1. New Birth Certificate (with Parents name)
2. Affidavit that I am eligible to marry

Both documents should not be older than 6 months.

The Affidavit is easy to get done, but the new birth certificate is giving trouble. Did anybody here obtain birth certificate from India? The Standesamt wont accept the one given by Indian Consulate in Germany. They want it to be issued in the City of Birth.

Where in India could I get it? (naive question, but I honestly dont know). Is it in the Municipal Corporation?

Please suggest.
