Re: Immigration law / 16 January 2004
Can someone throw some light on the main differences between Working Holidaymaker Visa and HSMP Visa ?
What I understood is: WHM visa is for Commonwealth country nationals, issued for 1 year, and you are supposed to work for atleast 6 months. Better option for graduates compared to a visiting visa (which is valid for just 6 months and costs almost as much)
HSMP allows you to immigrate to UK for 12 months, after which you can extend your visa to 3 years. At the end of 4 years you will be given Permanent Residence Visa. (No difficulties as in German NE case). A work contract is not a requisite to apply for this visa.

Re: Immigration law / 16 January 2004
"you dont have to goto England to get 1 year residence permit, instead you get 1 year visa from British Consulate in Dusseldorf."
then the rules have changed - to benefit of foreigners i must say

18.How long have I got, after a successful application decision, to enter the UK?
You must apply for entry clearance at a British Embassy within your own country and within 3 months from the date of your approval letter. You must then enter the UK within 3 months of a successful application for entry clearance.

The 3 month rule is correct, but the visa you can also apply from the country of your residence.
