Part-time job on the side...
Hi All,
I have a Daueraufenthalt-EG visa and work fulltime for a Technology company. Now, I'm interested in taking up a part-time job (mostly weekends) to learn something new. The part-time job is in a completely different sector i.e no competition for my employer.
The question is - whats' the best way of doing this?
My contract says that I should inform my company if I take up something like this and that it shouldnt affect my normal relationship with the company in any way. So, if my company has no issues, what are the implications on the tax side? How will the tax be calculated for the part-time income? Do I need a second Lohnsteurkarte?
..or Do I have to register as a freiberufler/freie Mitarbeiter?
What are the pros and cons in terms of taxes/income/health insurance?
It'll be great to have your views/experiences on this.
Thanks a lot ahead!

Yes, you need to take permission from your company. You may use tax card 5 for the second job and you will pay more percentage of the income in taxes and other insurances.

Yes, if it is oncontract basis.

I am not sure about the healthinsurance if you work on contract basis. But the rest of your social insurances, have to be paid.

Thanks a lot for your response raj.
I did a quick search and its the Lohnsteuerklasse 6 with about 43-52% tax on income.
Since you say that all social insurance has to be paid, does it include Rentenversicherung?
Are there possible ways of applying for RV exemption (it seems to be the highest % after Lohnsteuer) maybe as a freiberufler?
